Loved it!
Is it perfect? No, but does it need to be, to be enjoyed fully? Also no…, at least for me. I thoroughly enjoyed the vivid and meandering descriptions of people, places and foods, setting the stage for the actual events, and giving the world an immersive realistic yet magical feel. I love the slow tension building lead ups to the fast pacing action sequences. The fact that the main characters, and even some side characters, have character-arcs, show growth and suffer consequences of their actions makes them relatable and makes you invested in them. The a-chronological and multi-person perspective storytelling is sometimes challenging but the author always brings the threads together in a gripping and tension-filled way.
Who would have thunk
Begonnen met de Nederlandse vertaling maar na 1 deel afgehaakt. Het letterlijk maken van uitdrukkingen ligt me niet zo. Deze Engelse vertaling doet het veel leuker. De prijs is ook nog eens aangenaam. Op naar het einde.
