The Luckiest Man in the West

Luke Trahern is searching for gold, Mahala is looking for land in Oregon. Introduced by a bear, the two must survive the journey across the northern Rockies, warding off injuries, bear attacks, Indians, and the weather. At the end of his journey, Luke finds his gold, but it is not yellow metal.
