Ben Flinder's life at an isolated hotel in the mountains is complicated by the arrival of a young woman who is trying to escape, but refuses to reveal from whom. She is befriended by the Gray Shadow, a wild wolf, but not even the wolf can prevent her capture by her pursuers.
