ABSTRACT For the past several years, nurse scientists have engaged in dialogue and debate about nursing epistemology and the fit or lack of fit of various research methodologies with the ontology and epistemology of specific nursing frameworks. The purpose of this paper is to argue that rational interpretive hermeneutics is compatible with the Science of Unitary Human Beings (SUHBI. Fawcett (1996) issued on invitation to dialogue about issues of (in) compatibility between the world view and research rules of the SUHB_ As this had not yet occurred, the authors decided to offer an interactive dialogue building on the questions raised and an examination of the compatibility of rational interpretive hermeneutics for the SUHB.
