Appellant Karlos Brown was convicted of possession of a controlled substance in the first degree, operating a motor vehicle
on a learner's permit without a licensed operator, and being a persistent felony offender in the first degree. He was sentenced
to eighteen years' imprisonment. Prior to the presentation of the defense's case, defense counsel told the trial court he
had an ethical conflict with his client and implied that his client intended to offer perjured testimony.
