Bully Bully

Publisher Description

New York Times bestselling author Penelope Douglas delivers an unforgettable romance that toes the fine line between love and hate in Bully—the first novel in the Fall Away series.

My name is Tate. He doesn’t call me that, though. He would never refer to me by a friendly nickname. No, he’ll barely even speak to me. But he still won’t leave me alone.

We were best friends once. Then Jared turned on me and made it his mission to ruin my life. I was humiliated, shut out, and gossiped about all through high school. His pranks and rumors got worse as time wore on, and I made myself sick trying to stay out of his way. I even went away for a year just to avoid him.

But I’m done hiding from him now, and there’s no way I’ll allow him to ruin another year. Jared might not have changed, but I have. It’s time to fight back....

Mariiiiiiiee ,

Ok. Wow!!!

This book really surprised me, I was simply completely hooked!! 🤯

I was in a mood to read an easy-to-read book when I discovered this one. However, I must mention that YA novels are one of my guilty pleasures, I love all the nostalgic things about dreaming back to high school. With an "enemies to lovers" theme, this book was a big déjà vu experience to me 👻

The book is an NA novel about Tate who is bullied by her childhood friend and neighbor, Jared. She goes to school in France for a year to take a break from him, returns to high school, and the bullying resumes. But this time is different; Tate fights back.

Bullying is a serious thing and should not be taken easily or trivialized - but whether Jared actually bullies her all the time or not, can be discussed. In the beginning, there is
absolutely some sort of bullying, Tate feels terrorized and at times isolated when she’s not allowed to participate in things her classmates do, thanks to rumors spread by Jared. But I think the story develops more into a long foreplay between two characters who is clearly attracted to each other but try to tease/provoke the other to be the first to show it, than to be a story about bullying.

But wow! I really loved the concept "love / hate" and liked that the author go all the way witch some hot scenes. For me this was a good reading experience and a proper page-turner - I barely managed to put the book away.

(P. S. If you liked the Netflix show "Ginny & Georgia", particular the relationship between Ginny and Marcus, I recommend this book!)
