Dating For: Single Parents

I often hear things like "I'm so glad that I'm not single right now" or the ever popular "why are you STILL single"? Those two phrases are often used as a 1-2 punch, regardless of if you're a single parent or not. Let's not leave out the potential awkward looks at weddings or judging eyes at parent-teacher conference night when you show up alone (GASP!).Over the years, I have had many conversations about dating with various people that view dating in very different ways. I was a single mother looking for companionship and possibly starting a life with someone, while a friend of mine was dating merely for fun.  Granted, she did not have children and was a few years younger than I was, but our motivations were very different. While I was trying to find a strong connection to someone, she was running from it. That’s not to say that a single parent can only want to have a good time without commitment or a person that does not have children only wants a committed relationship. Regardless of our motives, many of the same issues affect everyone in the dating world, regardless of gender or possible offspring. The dating scene can be one wild and unpredictable ride!
