Euclidean Geometry, 2nd Edition
Co-Lab with Students
Publisher Description
This book is actually a combination of two things.
The first thing is that it’s an example of how you could work with students in a way that get them more engaged in the learning process. The basic idea is to let them Co-lab with me as their teacher in creating authentic material that will be used as a digital textbook both for themselves and other students.
This book is also a textbook about Euclidean geometry. I’ve created it together with my third year students at an upper secondary school (Wisbygymnasiet) in Visby, Sweden.
The reason I choose this project is that it’s my definite belief that if we can engage the students in the creative process of producing material – instead of just consuming it – they will also internalise the theory we work with in a whole different way than if I were to teach in a usual way with lectures, flipped lesson etc.
I choose Euclidean Geometry because – to my knowledge –it’s the most beautiful example of how to build up a complete axiomatic theory from the start. To start out with the definitions, postulates and common notions from Book I of the Elements and then go ”on with the process of proofing/constructing the propositions in the same book together with the students, really is an amazing experience.
