This volume brings together stories about travellers abroad in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America. Against the backdrop of settings far from home, and a natural environment which sometimes puts up unexpected and dangerous challenges, human interactions are, in the end, essentially the same. When cultures are different and sometimes there's no common language, the habits and presumptions that filter much of the truly personal interactions 'at home', simply cannot be applied. When the commonplace of home is replaced with the 'exotic' of the foreign, our eyes more easily see.
