Living in Clouds
A Peace Corps Volunteer in Ecuador
Publisher Description
Living in Clouds is a series of interconnected essays describing my experiences in the early 1960s as one of the first Peace Corps Volunteers. I went to Ecuador, South America, in 1963 and became involved in a project to survey and construct a road that crossed over the Andes and descended to the Amazon basin. Using mules to transport supplies and equipment, I slept in tents and passed through villages where isolated people knew nothing of the outside world. The book is more than a personal memoir, however; it's also a description of the Peace Corps in its early days.
