Publisher Description

The culture of Morocco is rich and diverse due to the country’s multi-ethnicity and rich history.

Throughout its history, it has received visitors from the east (Phoenicians, Jews and Arabs), the south (inhabitants of sub-Saharan Africa) and the north (Romans and Vandals), who have impacted the social structure of the country, and different types of religions coexist in the country, such as paganism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

Each region has its own characteristics, contributing to the national culture, and Morocco has made the protection of its diversity and the preservation of its cultural heritage one of its main priorities.

This book, which is definitely not a travelling guide in its traditional meaning, tries to build sort of a universal picture of the Country.

The first chapter, Sahara, is the introduction to a novel by the same title written by Pierre Loti.

At Rabat is taken from The Passing of Morocco by Frederick Ferdinand Moore, while the chapter entitled Marrakech comes from In Morocco by Edith Wharton. The chapter named Tangier is the first chapter of Morocco, Its People and Places by Edmondo De Amicis. The final writing, Kouskoussou, is from The pillars of Hercules by David Urquhart.
