Publisher Description
In the closing phases of the Second World War, over five thousand German rocket scientists are forcibly evacuated to a newly built rocket plant in the Soviet Union. Here, former German chief engineer Ernst Baier is working on a more streamlined, more powerful rocket that can be fired from mobile ramps. It is also only a matter of time before the Soviets also have the A-bomb. The former British agent Michael Saunders is living a life of ease with his wife Hilde and their daughter in a leafy suburb of London. Despite their efforts, British intelligence is doing nothing to rescue Hilde’s father, Ernst Baier, from captivity in the Soviet Union. A Soviet business request to Michael’s engineering plant suddenly changes the situation. Michael accompanies the delivery of the hardware to the Soviet Union with a hidden agenda to assist MI6 with a planned rescue mission. But what starts off as a relatively simple intelligence operation soon turns into something much more dangerous, and again Hilde finds herself with torn loyalties, this time between her husband and her daughter.
