Publisher Description
Poor Geppetto gets more than he bargained for when the marionette he carves from a stubborn piece of wood insults him and runs away into a world of trouble and mischief.
So is born Pinocchio, a puppet with an insatiable desire for adventure who ignores the advice of his woodcarver father, a talking cricket, and even his own blue-haired fairy to indulge in one shameful pleasure after another, with dire and hilarious results. A hundred and thirty years haven't dulled the guillotine wit or softened the moralistic punch of Collodi's wildly inventive masterpiece.
This companion volume to Pinocchio’s Forgotten Land features cover and title plate art by internationally acclaimed Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, and a new foreword by Scott Mignola.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
On December 25, a new live-action version of the classic tale Pinocchio, starring and directed by Roberto Benigni, will open in the U.S. Many versions of the original story by Carlo Collodi are already available, but Steerforth Press is issuing a new edition of The Adventures of Pinocchio for the occasion. Fluidly translated from the Italian by Nancy Canepa and sporting stylish line drawings by Carmelo Lettere, this should prove a tasteful alternative to the inevitable tie-in edition, and if prominently displayed could sell well over the holidays. Collodi's witty, satiric tale is much harsher than its Hollywood adaptation, and grownups will appreciate it as much or more than children.
