A Tale of Second Chances and Eternal Love
Kat Coe is a driven newspaper reporter who is lucky professionally but unlucky in love. She leaves San Angelo, Texas for a new job in Abilene, determined to put her failed marriage behind her.
When Kat becomes embroiled in covering the salacious murder of a wealthy socialite, she finds herself inexplicably drawn to the police detective working the case. Detective Callahan is arrogant, quick-tempered, handsome and exciting. And somehow, he becomes the man of Kat's dreams.
Or is Callahan what nightmares are made of? Warning signs appear. Maybe he's more like the man who broke her heart than she imagined. In this romantic novel set in 1980, the Cop Reporter finds herself on a journey of discovery about love — the faithless kind and the fated kind.
Excerpt from the book:
He tromped back, looming intimidatingly close. "I'll never talk to you again. I've had nothing but grief since I got up this morning." He actually jabbed his finger at me. "I told you, burn me and you'll never get another chance."
"I didn't burn you. I didn't print anything from you but the direct quote you gave me. You said, 'If you need any more, you'll have to get it somewhere else.'" I'd mocked him. "That's what I did. You left me no choice. I have a job to do, too, you know."
Oooh, those eyes got big.
His brows climbed high, wrinkling his long forehead. "You have a job to do?" He glanced around the parking lot, standing as tall as he got—which was damned tall—his chin high. He sneered with an eviscerating glare. "You have a job to do? No! I have a job to do!"
Callahan's face flushed and the veins on his neck bulged. I thought he might explode as he pointed at the police station. "We are sworn to protect and defend. We catch killers. We bring families justice." He stretched his arm toward me. "And what do you do? Fuck up our investigation, that's what."
