Peter V. Brett, Sunday Times bestselling author of The Demon Cycle, begins a brand new epic fantasy adventure set in his beloved world, following a new generation of heroes.
Fifteen years have passed since the demons were destroyed. Heroes have become legend, and those that remain live in their shadows.
Olive, Princess of Hollow, has her entire life planned out—a steady march toward succession. But the more her mother writes the script, the more Olive rails against playing the parts she is assigned.
Darin is the son of the man people say saved the world. Everyone expects greatness from Darin, but the only thing he’s ever been great at is hiding.
But now it’s time to fight the darkness.
When Olive and Darin step across the wards one night, they learn that the demons are not all gone, and those that remain hunger for revenge.
Are Darin and Olive ready to be heroes?

Heart-wrenching, smart, and modern, this book kept me wide-eyed and wide awake for many-a-nights as I struggled step-for-step alongside Olive and Darin from the green lands to the desert pits to the darkest recesses of the demon minds. The Desert Prince has set a new standard for fantasy.’

About the author
Peter V. Brett is the internationally bestselling author of the Demon Cycle series, which has sold more than three and a half million copies in twenty-seven languages worldwide. Novels include The Warded Man, The Desert Spear, The Daylight War, The Skull Throne, and The Core. He lives in Brooklyn.
Brett returns to the world of his Demon Cycle series, 15 years after mankind defeated the night-dwelling demons called corelings, in the action-packed but somewhat predictable epic that opens his Nightfall Saga trilogy. Though this sequel series stands alone, it will have the most resonance with those who are already invested in the universe and primed to care about its next generation of heroes; new readers will have a steeper climb. The main attraction is the well-shaded title character, Olive Paper, introduced as the princess of Hollow. Olive is intersex, a fact that's kept secret out of her mother's fear that if Olive were considered male she would be viewed as a rival by those vying for the Skull Throne of New Krasia, putting her in danger. The expected epic fantasy plot beats including the return of a threat thought eliminated, and a prophecy that may foretell Olive's fate are all present, but none are particularly memorable, while the numerous fights to the death with a variety of corelings become repetitive. This is best suited for Brett's established fans.
