"I can't even express how much I love this book! I didn't want this story to end!" Reese Witherspoon
"Painfully beautiful." The New York Times Book Review
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life - until the unthinkable happens.
Perfect for fans of Barbara Kingsolver and Celeste Ng, Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
The fiction debut of renowned wildlife scientist Delia Owens, Where the Crawdads Sing was always going to offer a unique perspective on the natural world. As a coming-of-age story, it follows young Kya, who is slowly abandoned by her family and learns to fend for herself in the marshland of 1950s North Carolina. As a mystery, it follows an investigation years later into the murder of a local celebrity, with Kya as the prime suspect. These two narrative strands weave together as Owens draws upon her own life and uses her skill with words to create a world of prejudice, lust and, of course, secrets that hide in the wilderness. Award-winning narrator Cassandra Campbell brings the story to life with passion, verve and authentic-sounding accents. Make sure to listen to the book before watching the film adaptation.

A must Read!
The story is alluring like the marshes are to Kaia. It is descriptive and emotive as if the author has been part of it all her life. Wonderful detail of the life of an abandoned 6 year old whose intelligence and love of nature, the bird life and treasures from the beach lead her to experience with her sensitivity far more than her mother or father could have taught her. She is self taught and a child of nature with nouse who develops a deep affection for Tate, who gives her
stability and love which she craves.
This book is beautifully read and in many ways is another alluring feature.
