Sixteen-year-old Kara Mills expects her summer in Silver Falls to be dull—spent in a small town she doesn't care for with an aunt she barely knows. But boredom quickly turns to dread when Aunt Adrienne brings home an eerie statue from a local thrift shop. What starts as a strange curiosity soon takes on a life of its own.

The statue vanishes and reappears in different places around the house, leaving Kara to question her own senses. While she assumes it's her aunt playing tricks, Adrienne, a deeply spiritual woman, insists that a powerful spirit resides within the statue—and she welcomes it.

At first, Kara is skeptical. She can only watch as her quirky aunt offers small gifts to the statue and talks to it as if it's listening. But as the days pass, Adrienne's fascination turns into obsession and devotion. She grows cold and distant toward Kara, her behavior more erratic—and dangerous.

Soon Kara can no longer deny that something is very wrong. Terrified and alone, she witnesses her aunt falling deeper under the influence of a dark force. As evil begins to pervade Adrienne's entire home, Kara must confront the truth behind the statue before it consumes them both.
