Academy of the Holy Names in Tampa, Florida is an independent, Catholic, co-educational elementary school and a college preparatory high school for young women. As the second oldest high school in the state of Florida, Academy strives to maintain an innovative approach to curriculum that integrates technology, promotes creativity, encourages artistic expression, and actively engages students in exploration and inquiry. Faculty and administration are committed to designing curriculum to take full advantage of the mobile technology environment with a continued focus on cultivating imagination and curiosity in their students. Faculty incorporate the latest digital content available through a variety of sources including the iBooks Store, apps, and other internet-based resources. Having access to a variety of perspectives on a global scale, students construct learning opportunities to reach deeper levels of discovery. 


Students use iPad and MacBook devices to create 3D images of monuments in Washington, D.C., in preparation for an experiential learning trip, they read and share Multi-Touch books about the 1920s they create with iBooks Author, they program a robot by applying the angle of rotations math skill, and are actively involved in many other technology rich learning experiences.


Data collection has shown integration of technology into the classroom, along with other best practices, has a positive impact on student attitudes towards learning, self-confidence, and self-esteem, resulting in a deeper engagement with the course material and development of 21st century skills.
