A page turner

This is shockingly good book. I had to read it on one go and I know that it will stay with me a long time. Jeanine Cummings has managed to make the reality of migrants so real and tangible that I cannot watch news ever with same eyes as before. Masterful storytelling with brilliant characters and storyline that goes like a bestia.

What was all the fuss

I really don’t understand why this book received such rave reviews. I found it saccharine, tokenistic and utterly unbelievable. Why in gods name are the main characters based on middle class Americans? It’s just weird. The villan of the story cartel boss Javier, is a book loving, poetry reading short sighted businessman whose character is totally misjudged. I would not think this is in any way an accurate portrayal of violent, ruthless cartel kingpin. Pointless and annoying.
