When Phoebe Hannigan was aged just 11, she experienced the most traumatic event of her life… her classroom being stormed by a gunman and the disappearance of her favourite teacher. An event almost unheard of in rural Australia and Phoebe vowed that one day she'll uncover what really happened, even if the local police couldn't.

Ten years later, when her journalism professor hands her class an assignment involving the re-opening of a cold case of their choice, Phoebe knows that the day has finally come. Time to head back to her small country hometown and question any locals who might have something to say (…and they have plenty).

Aware she will be stepping on delicate toes, with their parish priest having been one of the main suspects, Phoebe realises that navigating her way towards the truth is not going to be easy. As she delves further and further into the backstories of what eventuated that year, she finds herself tangled up in religious controversies, old love triangles and devastating family dramas.
