Billy’s Great Escape

A feral goat, named Billy, moved in to Farmer Matt’s farm and started causing a lot of damage. He tried to catch Billy and his herd but they kept escaping. Farmer Matt’s daughter, Lucia, saw Billy in the paddock, and while he was facing away from her she used a lasso and caught him. They used Billy to gather all the other feral goats together that were eating the crops and destroying the farm. 


In 2015, the Feral Animals Enviro-Stories program provided kids from central New South Wales, Australia, with the opportunity to write and illustrate stories about feral animals and their impacts on both biodiversity and agriculture. Schools were supported by technical staff from local organisations to help them learn about their feral animals. This project has resulted in ten books being published, printed and distributed as well as interactive books developed. This book was prepared by a student from Dubbo South Public School with support from Central West Local Land Services and Invasive Animals CRC.
