Can I give 6 stars?

I’m writing this review some 6 months after finishing the whole Lei Crime series because frankly, it’s the best thing I’ve read in such a long time and since finishing it nothing since has quite lived up to the bond I felt to the characters in this book and the following ones in the series.

I stumbled upon the first book for free after I’d just finished Patricia Cornwell’s whole line up, so I was feeling a little lost and grieving a bit for the characters I had grown accustomed to reading about every day for so long (post-series blues), and I was absolutely not expecting what I came across when I downloaded Blood Orchid at all.

It has the perfect formula - a bit of grisly murder, strong and complex characters and a setting that is truly unique and special without being polarizing or unrealistic.

The characters are so strong in this book and this series as a whole, a couple of times I actually caught myself accidentally referring to them as friends when out at lunch with people in real life.

If you love to pick up a book and be truly, honestly transported and to fall in love with characters enough to forget that they’re fictional, Blood Orchid and all that follow it are really your best bet.
