APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Matthew Reilly’s Cobalt Blue is a short, action-packed novel and a welcome addition to the superhero genre. When the great American superhero, Cobalt, dies of heart failure, the villainous Fury of Russia begins a violent attack on the nation, demanding that the children of his rival face him in battle. Cobalt’s youngest child, Cassie, is forced to confront the darkness in her past and the superpowers she would rather keep hidden. The first book in what will presumably be a series (though that’s not confirmed), Cobalt Blue is charged with blockbuster energy and intensity, and chock full of Reilly’s trademark cliffhangers. Both the structure and the plot draw liberally from the real Cold War, and by overlapping nationalism with superheroism, Reilly has created a world that is simultaneously intriguing and chilling.
