7. We Didn’t Mean to Go to Sea
John, Susan, Titty and Roger (the Swallows) plan only to mind a borrowed yacht in harbour, but bad weather and a dragging anchor sweep them out to sea. With no adult aboard, they must navigate across the North Sea to Holland. Seamanship, courage and teamwork turn what began as an accident into their most dangerous real-life voyage yet.

8. Secret Water
A supposed “punishment” holiday leaves the Walkers marooned on tidal marshland with charts and a tent. They turn it into an exploration game, mapping creeks and islands. Soon they encounter two rival “native” tribes and a playful war of maps, passwords and flags ensues before the children join forces to rescue a stranded boat.

9. The Big Six
Dick and Dorothea (the “Ds”) holiday in Norfolk among the Coot Club and Death and Glories. When local boats are vandalised, the Ds are blamed. Using detective work and river lore, the children clear their names and catch the real culprits.

10. Missee Lee
En route to China with Captain Flint, the Swallows and Amazons are shipwrecked and captured by pirate leader Missee Lee. Instead of harm, she makes them her “students.” Cultural clashes, humour and seamanship lead to escape, showing the group’s adaptability.

11. The Picts and the Martyrs
While Captain Flint is away, the Amazons secretly host Dick and Dorothea at his house. To avoid Great-Aunt Maria’s stern eye, the Ds “go native” in the woods as the “Picts,” creating an elaborate hideout. Their double-life ends in comic exposure but also proves their independence.

12. Great Northern?
On a Scottish cruise with Captain Flint, Dick spots a rare bird’s nest on cliffs slated for development. The children mount a secret conservation mission to protect the eggs from collectors. Seamanship, climbing skills and quick thinking save the birds and foil the villains, ending the series on a note of adventure with environmental conscience.
