Publisher Description
Frank Schofield, a missionary affiliated with the Presbyterian Church of Canada, came to Korea in 1916 as a professor at Severance Medical School during a period of political instability in Korea. He informed the world of the demonstrations of the March 1st Movement in 1919 using the pictures he took. He prepared reports on the sites of the Suchon-ri and Jeam-ri massacres he personally visited and disclosed the inhumane actions of Japan. He was later called “the Thirty-fourth Patriot.” Forced out of the country in 1920 after standing against the unrighteousness of Imperial Japan, Schofield became a professor in Toronto. Upon retiring from his post, he returned to Korea in 1958, emphasized the spirit of the March 1st Movement, criticized the dictatorial government, and stood against corruption and dishonesty in Korea.
This book will be a good opportunity to share the life and spirit of Dr. Schofield with many people abroad. The life of the doctor, wherein he was benevolent beyond measure like a dove to the weak, and exhibited a spirit like a tiger to the strong, shows us well what a life of justice, honesty and true consideration is in this age dominated by power and wealth.
