Magali: a French marmot, swayed by her friends to sneak out at night for crazy sports adventures!

A commotion came from the queue. The weasel team was pushing the squirrel team. The squirrel team was pushing back.

The biggest weasel pointed at the squirrels. 'Those are our blackberries! You stole them from us!'

The foxes in the queue recognised the squirrels. 'Yes! You stole from us too! You ambushed us and got our blueberries!'

A team of rabbits further in the queue shouted at the squirrels. 'Cheaters! You're playing with stolen goods! You stole our raspberries, too!'

The dirty, grey squirrel team looked left and right as all the forest animals started pointing and yelling.

'Thieves! Thieves!'

'Disqualify them!'

'Cheaters!'

Magali and her mates (Mishka, Henri Le Hare, F-F-Foxy, Little Foxy, Puppy Bébé and Chamois Luc), also furious with the squirrels, shouted, 'You're going down!'

Oh, dear. Is Mr Woodpecker, the referee, going to sort this out? This is paintball with fruit being used as ammunition, and the sneaky squirrel team are playing with stolen ammunition!

Question for the Author
How did you come up with the character of Magali?
'You know, I really love the French Alps, and looking at all the animals that live in the mountains. I'm Australian, so I had never seen a marmot before moving to France. I worked one summer, for a kids' summer camp, and part of my job was to take the children out on walks. We would go looking for marmots, all of us being very quiet, secretly sneaking up to the holes in the ground, where the entrances to the marmot burrows were. Of course, we would make too much noise and the marmots would disappear into their underground tunnels, but sometimes we were lucky and able to take photos. I think their underground homes took over my imagination, and before you knew it, I had a whole chapter book in my head, with Magali as the principal character!'
