Scarlett O’Hara happens to be the spoiled daughter of a rich plantation owner. The story presents her experiences. She uses every means which she has to come out of the poverty which she finds herself in after Sherman’s “March to the Sea.”

Rhett and Scarlett happen to be lovers but what happens to them is not there at the end of the novel. On being asked what happened to the author’s lovers in the novel, Mitchell said that for all she knew Rhett may have found someone else who was less difficult.

The novel was adapted in a blockbuster movie of the same name in 1939.
“Gone with the Wind” is the only novel which the author got published during her lifetime.

The book is still popular all over the world. It is often discussed in academic circles even today. It has also been prescribed in the course of study of the students of American Literature in the United States and several other countries of the world.
