Publisher Description
Murder, Inc. was a Brooklyn based criminal organization that dealt in murder, protection rackets, loan sharking and coercion. Headed by Louis Lepke Buchalter, the group of gangsters turned to Albert Anastasia as leader when Buchalter was imprisoned for heroin smuggling. There were also small players like Matty Moskwitz who was murdered in a Herzl Street barber shop by George Zeitz in February 1939. Investigators discovered that the barber shop was a gathering place for thugs, betters and killers. Perhaps the most notorious hangout for Murder, Inc. was Midnight Rose's candy store.
