Mad Barbara

Restoration London, a girl brought up wild by a soldier father, and a court where nothing is safe. Deeping wrote historical romance before the domestic novels that made his fortune, and this is the most vivid of the early ones. This edition is bound with 57 plates of seventeenth-century painting, among them works by Frans van Mieris the Elder, Thomas Wijck and Judith Leyster, and includes one restored and coloured in-text illustration.
