Originally published as part of a magazine serial story in 1919, this classic spy thriller is a great example of the dime store novel. Mr. Standfast was John Buchan’s next story to bring some of his other heroes together to carry out an important mission.


Working undercover in World War I, General Hannay leaves the front lines to find a dangerous German spy. Buchan recruits American operative Blenkiron and Hannay’s pilot buddy Pienaar to help find their foe. As the hero searches the streets of London under the guise of a pacifist, his search takes him to the artist communes of London and the Swiss Alps.


Fans of the resourceful Hannay, the determined Blenkiron, and the clever Pienaar will be glad they joined the hunt.
