Perishable Goods is Yates at his best. Featuring the suave Richard Chandos, this novel was a terrific hit and was reprinted three times within the first month of publication. The novel was warmly received by critics and served hugely to expand the author's already large readership. Typically deft, fast-paced and amusing, it 'contains every crime in the calendar and a heart-rending finale'. A companion novel to 'Blind Corner', 'Blood Royal', 'An Eye For A Tooth' and 'Fire Below'. Gripping stuff.


Dornford Yates was the pseudonym of the British novelist, Cecil William Mercer (7 August 1885 – 5 March 1960), whose novels and short stories, some humorous (the Berry books), some thrillers (the Chandos books), were best-sellers in the 21-year interwar period between the First and Second world wars.
