Publisher Description

The elucidation of the important role of low molecular weight mediators in the regulation of macromolecular synthesis is presently the aim of many research teams. Investigators working with prokaryotes have analyzed the effect of guanosine tetra- and pentaphosphates on RNA and protein synthesis and have also studied the metabolism of these compounds. Several research groups working with eukaryotic systems have begun to unravel the involvement of unique dinucleotides in the regulation of DNA, RNA, and protein synthesis. An exciting new direction of research was opened by the discovery of 2',5'-oligoadenylic acid in interferon-treated cells. Therefore, we thought the time had come for a fruitful exchange of research findings and experiences obtained with various prokaryotic and eukaryotic systems.
