Short Stories Volume I

A short story compilation by John Lucas.  This book includes five stories:  The Fortuneteller, The Ghost Writer, The District, The Silk Dress, and The Opera House.  Below are the descriptions for all five of the short stories. 


The Fortuneteller

A short story by John Lucas.  Two young but very different men are out in New York City until they have an argument about the importance of life and the meaning it has for people.  It isn't until they stumble across a fortuneteller does the truth about life finally become revealed.  


The Ghost Writer

A short story by John Lucas.  The Ghost Writer enters the mind of an anorexic girl and the difficulties she must endure both at home and school.  While her physical exterior portrays a weak and fragile existence, her mind shows off an aptitude of much greater strength.


The District

A short story by John Lucas.  The District tells the story of a man who has entered an odd reality known only as "The District" to the people who live there.  Once he finds the woman he had come for, they both set out to understand the secrets of The District before it's too late.  


The Silk Dress

A short story by John Lucas.  The Silk Dress is a tale told by two opposing sides who week the same goal but have different paths of achieving it.  These two forces have used human beings as the impetus for their story telling for centuries, often conflicting with each other in ways that are rarely noticed by those who are unwilling to listen carefully.


The Opera House

A short story by John Lucas.  In a future anarchistic world where the economic gaps between rich and poor are the largest they have ever been in history, civilization has been thrown into chaos as world leaders attempt to resolve the striking problems.  The Opera House tells the story of two individuals who have grown up and lived in this world.
