South Riding

South Riding was Winfred Holtby's last and greatest book. She died only a few month after finishing it and never saw it in print. Two years later it had been reprinted a dozen times, won the James Tait memorial prize and been turned into a film (starring Ralph Richardson). Both the BBC (2011) and ITV (1974) have adapted it for television.
