When no-nonsense game warden Joe Pickett ventures out into an impending blizzard to find an injured elk, he discovers something quite different: a dead University of Wyoming professor, along with what turns out to be a secret tech facility owned by an Atlanta billionaire. Getting to the bottom of things is dangerous and dicey, as espionage, right-wing secessionists and national security trip up the dogged investigator. We loved the supporting characters (who help make C. J. Box’s long-running Joe Pickett series so intensely readable), like the outlaw falconer Nate and his fraught friendship with Joe. We spent much of this book wanting to discover how the people in Joe’s life would play a role in the dangerous events unfolding—and we were not disappointed. Packed with witty banter and fast-paced action, Storm Watch kept us on edge and entertained.
