Ten Thousand Miles with a Dog Sled

Many people in the world try to conquer some unconquerable places and show their dangerous beauty to the rest of the world. The author of this book is one of them. Hudson Stuck was an explorer who was enchanted by the beauty of Alaska. Wanting to explore this place, he went on several journeys across Alaska. Attracted by the wide-open spaces, an Episcopal priest and champion of “muscular Christianity”, he volunteered to serve as Archdeacon of Yukon, in the interior of Alaska, in 1904. During his stay there, he traveled across Alaska to paint a portrait of the land and the people living there.

In this book, Hudson describes several different and exciting trips by dogsled. He also describes the land and the different native groups he met on his voyages.

His first trip was during the winter of 1905-1906 and lasted four and a half months going from Fairbanks to Circle, Fort Yukon, Bettles, Coldfoot, Kotzebue Sound, Nome and back to Fairbanks.

Here, years later was the second trip, which was unplanned and dangerous.in the winter of 1909-1910 was his third trip, from Fort Yukon to Allakaket, Tanana, Rampart City, Nenana, Chena, Fairbanks, Salchaket, Eagle, Circle, and back to Fort Yukon.

And, the last trip was in the winter of 1910-1911 from Tanana to Ididarod to Fort Yukon.

Using very descriptive language, Hudson makes the readers to feel like they are really there, experiencing all the trips and adventures.
