The Cadet Regime

Following years of economical turmoil and disunity, the New Government has stepped into the vacuum and established itself as the dominant political party. Its popularity is partly based on punishing the leaders and the public figures from the previous regime involved in the disaster, usually jailing or sidelining them.

But then it was decided that the younger generation should not only suffer for the sins of their parents but must be seen to do so by the public. That was when the Cadet Service was established, mandatory for girls aged 18 and upwards who were connected to the old regime in any way. Established in order to prove that the current government was serious about retribution it is a huge and popular vote winner.

The Cadets is a uniformed branch of "volunteer" helpers. Their role is to clean the streets, support the older population, supply farm labour etc, anything menial in fact that could be described as helpful...and visible. Visible is important to the New Government, citizens could see and enjoy their taxed being put to good use and are loyal and enthusiastic supporters of the scheme.
