'If you loved The Devil Wears Prada, you'll dive right into The Intern.'
-- Lauren Sams, author of Crazy, Busy, Guilty and She's Having Her Baby
Josie Browning dreams of having it all.
A perfect academic record, an amazing journalism career - and for her crush to realise she exists. The only problem? Josie can't stop embarrassing her little sister or her best friend, let alone herself.
Josie's luck changes when she lands an internship at Sash magazine. A coveted columnist job is up for grabs, but Josie quickly learns making her mark will be far from easy, especially under the reign of editor Rae Swanson.
From the lows of photocopying and coffee-fetching, to the highs of celebrities, beauty products and by-lines, this is one internship Josie will never forget.
Totally fresh and funny, this debut novel from media insider Gabrielle Tozer reveals what's really behind the seeming glamour of the magazine industry.

APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Taking aspiring fashionistas behind the scenes of a women’s magazine, The Intern is The Devil Wears Prada for readers who love YA. Author Gabrielle Tozer has experience in magazines, but she’s not interested in crafting a hard-hitting exposé. Instead she builds a light, colourful story around 17-year-old Josie’s work at Sash, complete with a glamazon boss, celebrity interviews and a crippling crush. Tozer’s clumsy but bright heroine is an endearing and relatable creation.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Clumsy fashion-failure Josie Browning aspires to journalistic greatness, yet the 17-year-old unwittingly lands a coveted internship at Sash, a women's fashion magazine. Scoring a juicy quote and a follow-up feature with a boy-band celeb help Josie earn the admiration of editor-in-chief, Rae Swanson. Josie hopes this will gain her an edge in winning a $5,000 bonus and her own column in the magazine, which are up for grabs among the interns. Meanwhile, Josie gets some lessons in style and catches the eye of her cousin Tim's handsome roommate, James. Australian author/journalist Tozer takes readers on a tour of the highs (sample sales, celebrity photo shoots) and lows (impossible deadlines, washing piles of dirty bikinis) of life at a women's fashion magazine. Though Tozer is careful not to allow Rae to overly resemble Miranda Priestly of The Devil Wears Prada, readers will find plenty of parallels to that novel. Tozer's story follows Josie through familiar problems with family, friends, and boys as the pressure of Sash gets to her and she makes her way toward a less fashion-focused journalistic triumph. Ages 12 up.
