The Letters of Lady Mary Wortley Montague

The Lady Mary Wortley Montagu (15 May 1689 – 21 August 1762) was an aristocrat and writer. Montagu is today chiefly remembered for her letters, particularly her letters from Turkey, as wife to the British ambassador. Being a female she was allowed to visit the Harem and gave insight in lives previously cut off from Foreign (mostly male ) visitors. Whilst in Turkey she witnesses practice of inoculation against smallpox and bought these findings to England.
