Novelist's Biography:
Lewis Carroll was the pen name of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, a British author, mathematician, and photographer. He was born on January 27, 1832, in Daresbury, Cheshire, England. Dodgson was the third of 11 children in his family and had a gift for mathematics from a young age.
Aside from his literary pursuits, Dodgson was an accomplished photographer and took portraits of many famous people of his time, including Alfred Lord Tennyson and Charles Darwin.
Lewis Carroll died on January 14, 1898, in Guildford, Surrey, England, at the age of 65.
Synopsis:
"The Nursery Alice" is a simplified version of Lewis Carroll's classic children's book "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland." It was adapted by Carroll himself and originally published in 1890.
The book is designed to be more accessible to younger children, with simpler language and larger illustrations. It follows the same basic plot as "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland," in which a young girl named Alice falls down a rabbit hole and enters a fantastical world full of talking animals, bizarre characters, and nonsensical situations.
However, some of the more complex and challenging elements of the original story are removed or simplified in "The Nursery Alice." For example, the character of the Mock Turtle is replaced with a "nursery soup," and the Queen of Hearts' trial is changed to a simple game of croquet.
As a result, "The Nursery Alice" serves as an introduction to the world of "Alice in Wonderland" for younger readers, and a way for them to enjoy the story before they are ready for the full version.
