They called him a pirate—he called himself a liberator. To the Americans he was a hero—to the English and Canadians he was an outlaw. He used his own sons and daughter to attack and burn their large passenger ship operating on the St. Lawrence River and supported the ragtag army of discontents that attempted to invade the Canadians.
