The Secret of the Whispering Well

For the most part, Jacob West is an ordinary twelve year old boy. He plays baseball, enjoys fantasy books and magazines, and, sometimes, Jacob West reads minds. His best friends, Alexandra Keene and Samuel Hamilton, benefit from this somewhat unusual talent. With Jake's psychic warnings, they are always prepared for pop quizzes and their parents never catch them reading banned books. But this summer, Jake's gift will put them in great danger. He will hear a telepathic call for help, a whispering voice rising from an old abandoned well. The well is in forbidden territory, the overgrown and decaying Manchester estate. It is said that Julia Manchester, the aging heiress who lives in the moldering mansion on the estate, delights in catching, stewing and eating children who invade her property. It is also said that, thirty years earlier, Miss Julia had casually sauntered into her father's room and used an ax to remove his head. At least, that's what people said.
