No one stitches together “issue” books like Jodi Picoult, who writes tales that probe weighty topics like the conflict between modern medicine and midwifery or the death penalty. With her keen eye for character, relationships and difficult moral dilemmas, the American author’s at the top of her game in this 2013 novel. The issue at stake in this surprising small-town drama about the friendship between a reclusive young woman and a well-loved 95-year-old man is the Holocaust. The Storyteller takes you on an emotional rollercoaster ride that explores concepts of evil, forgiveness and revenge.

Another brilliant novel by Jodi Picoult. She paints an emotional landscape, one you don't necessarily see in pictures but feel with every fibre. Not for the squeamish. An interesting moral question for all times. Heartbreaking and uplifting.
