Book 1 - Foundational Genetics

Transcription & Mutation

Chapter 1

Publisher Description

As we look ahead, both the near future and hundreds of years down the road, DNA is and will be at the heart of our global society. From human health to genetically modified organisms to environmental bioremediation, an understanding of DNA will be central to human endeavors. Similarly, DNA is at the heart of our modern biological paradigm. In order to understand how and why organismal function, from the cellular to the behavioral level, we must start with an understanding of how and why information coded in their DNA is converted into proteins. In “Foundational Genetics”, I aim to create content that is appropriate beginning at the sophomore level of college and that provides a broad yet robust foundation for students as they progress through their upper level biology courses to their post-graduate experiences. I have designed this book to be as accessible as possible, with video explanations of all topics, and video walk-throughs of all applied content. Chapter 1, Transcription & Mutation, introduces the reader to the first steps in the process of going from DNA to phenotype.
