But eventually they turn on each other, and a terrible crime in their close-knit rural setting only makes matters worse. Author Kristin Hannah drew on her own lifelong love of horses—and the loss of her own mum—to build out this multifaceted tale about perseverance and sisterhood. Just as satisfying as those narrative beats are the lived-in details of horse culture, from cosy barns to competitive fairs. Similarly, Hannah mines the deep rivalry at play in this particular family dynamic, and how outside forces can push that towards breaking point.

So true to the justice system so many people who have been wrongly convicted and spent so much time in prison and lost everything because of it
