Feldman, captain of a star ship, is out to vindicate himself of a past failure by taking on an almost suicidal mission; that of eliminating a vortex. It is one of many that make colonization of an otherwise suitable planet, impossible. He finds unexpected romance and many misadventures, in his struggle against the ruthless opponent Tiras Welby, who will stop at nothing to protect his source of Biferox, and his growing empire.

Can Feldman surmount the overwhelming odds, and free the aliens Welby has enslaved to mine Biferox?
