Maisie Slaughter is far from traditional in her Christianity. She worships God in a way some call dangerous to the community. Though she is friendless and shunned, she has a lone admirer. Adam Woods sees only beauty and wonder in her. When a man seeks revenge for a crime nearly twenty years old, Maisie is institutionalized and Adam is jailed.
