14 Days in Beijing: The Short Story Part I
Descripción editorial
It's April 4th, 2019. My name is Lucky Chance, and the Beijing Police showed up to my apartment unannounced and arrested me for drug-related charges. I don't know how the law works, nor can I speak the language to even ask. The officers escorting me from precinct to precinct aren't sharing any information with me either. After 14 hours of sitting handcuffed in a holding cell, my next destination is Beijing Jail No. 6.
Here I am in a cell with 14 Chinese men, none of which I can speak to, and 9 wooden beds for 24 hours a day. In here, a second feels like life, and a minute feels like an eternity. How many days will I be here? Will I ever receive any information? Am I the only foreigner in this jail? How does this jail even work? I have no idea. Nobody knows I am here either.
As the time slowly progresses, my girlfriend, my friends, and my coworkers will notice I am missing eventually.
