This ebook uses data from the ABS Census in 2011 to describe the current size of the resident vehicle fleet, the level of motorisation and the proportion of zero car households in municipalities in metropolitan Melbourne.

Estimates for 2026 based on some of these indicators and forecast population growth are provided.

There is a discussion of the value of these high level indicators and how they might be used.
