Descripción editorial

In my wearable sculptures I increase the symbolic meaning of clothing. By enlarging and demolishing ideal images, I look for the emotion that lies behind these (self) images. The sculptures often undergo a transformation. Something happens to the sculptures, they change shape, are torn off, air is blown in. For example, I designed wearable sculptures with inflatable breasts and buttocks to denounce the makeable body. A ‘ballroom dress’ that turns out to be a prison and another one in which all the ‘beauty ideals’ such as long hair, red lips and large breasts and buttocks are torn off one by one.
My sources of inspiration are Federico Fellini, Pina Bausch, Fong Leng, Oscar Schlemmer (Bauhaus).
This book consists of different photoshoots that were taken from my performances with wearable sculptures between 1981 and 2008.
